Gonzaga men's soccer interim head coach Chris McGaughey has announced the hiring of his new assistant coach, James Garces.

"I am super excited to have James join our staff here at Gonzaga," McGaughey said. "James is a passionate coach who has had plenty of experience at the Division 1 and MLS Academy level. He is a coach I am familiar with and that I trust to keep the standards we have at Gonzaga. I am confident that the qualities he has as a coach will work well with our current staff moving forward."

Garces was most recently named the head coach of the RSL AZ MLS Next U16 Academy Coach in 2023.

"I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to come in and get to work with this group of talented young men," Garces said. 

Prior to RSL AZ MLS Next Academy, he was the assistant coach at Grand Canyon University. Before that he was the associate head coach at CSU Bakersfield after being the assistant coach for seven.
 
Garces began his time at GCU in 2022, where he aided the team to a 7-8-3 record with a 2-0-1 showing against nationally ranked teams. The Lopes defeated #4 UCLA 3-2 on the road, the highest ranked victory in program history.

Garces coached four players who earned five WAC postseason awards in 2022, including WAC Offensive Player of the Year Shaun Joash. Along with Joash, who earned first team recognition, Jibril Rodet garnered second team while Erick Monge and Bright Nutornutsi received All-Freshman accolades. The Lopes finished the 2022 season third in the WAC in scoring offense, shot accuracy, total goals, and total points.
 
Prior to GCU, Garces spent eight seasons at his alma mater of CSU Bakersfield, one year as associate head coach (2021) and seven seasons at assistant coach (2015-21).
 
Garces graduated from CSUB with a bachelor's degree in communications with an emphasis in Public Relations in 2014 and a master's degree in public administration in 2016. Garces played all four years as a defender for the Roadrunners and was instrumental to the program's first ever NCAA Tournament berth in 2011.

John DeMartini was named head women's soccer coach at San Francisco State ahead of the 2021 season and found success with that squad. The Gators went 6-3-2 in CCAA play and DeMartini was named CCAA Coach of the Year. Prior to that, he served as an assistant coach for the 2019 season and was a volunteer assistant in 2018. That season, the regionally-ranked Gators secured the No. 4 seed in the CCAA Championships, marking the program's first postseason appearance since 2010. In his second season, the Gators were hampered by injuries that saw him use 15 different lineups in 18 matches.

DeMartini's coaching extensive coaching résumé includes stints at Sacramento State, Pacific, and Stanislaus State. He also coaches for collegiate camp staffs at Cal, Notre Dame, Pitt, Santa Clara, and Stanford, and has previously worked camps at UC Santa Barbara. He coached professionally in the Women's Premier Soccer League from 2001-03 as an assistant coach for Elk Grove Pride.

The veteran soccer coach also brings over 20 years of club coaching experience, having coached for San Joaquin Stanislaus Futbol Club; Elk Grove United Soccer Club; San Juan Soccer Club in Folsom, California; Sereno Soccer Club in Phoenix; and Mountain View Los Altos Soccer Club.

DeMartini has an NSCAA Advanced National Diploma, an NSCAA National Diploma, an NSCAA Advanced Regional certification, NSCAA goalkeeper 1 and 2 licenses, and USSF D, E, and F licenses. In addition to his extensive soccer résumé, DeMartini has a background as a gourmet chef.

 

Coach Millick brings over a decade of coaching experience at both the high school and collegiate levels, with a proven track record of building competitive programs and developing student-athletes on and off the field.

As the founding head coach of the Men’s Soccer program, Millick has led the team since its inception, guiding it to remarkable success. Under his leadership, the program earned its first NWAC Region Championship in 2020 and has since captured back-to-back titles. The team has made two Final Four appearances, finishing 3rd overall in both 2021 and 2023. His coaching excellence has been recognized with NWAC South Region Coach of the Year honors in 2017, 2020, 2023, and 2024.

Coach Millick is widely recognized for his exceptional ability to develop talent, consistently elevating athletes to their highest potential. His commitment to growth and performance has produced an NWAC Baden Player of the Year, four South Region MVPs, and a Region Defensive Player of the Year—testament to his impact on and off the court.

Since relocating to Southern Oregon, Coach Millick has become a cornerstone of the local soccer community. He has spent the past 10 years coaching multiple age groups with the Rogue Valley Timbers and currently serves as the club’s Director of Coaching, where he mentors both players and coaches across the program.

 

A former player and coach for the Washington men's soccer team, Raphael Cox returned to Montlake ahead of the 2023 season as a member of Nicole Van Dyke's staff as an assistant coach. Spending three seasons with the UW women, Cox works with the Husky attacking unit and assists with recruiting, practice planning and opposition scouting.

During his coaching career, Cox has helped several players advance to the professional ranks, including many to Major League Soccer careers. Those including Ethan Bartlow, Blake Bodily, Kendall Burks, Jacob Castro, Nate Jones, Freddy Kleeman, Kalani Kossa-Rienzi, Lucas Meek, Gio Miglietti, Ilijah Paul, Achille Robin, Ryan Sailor and Jaret Townsend.

Pairing with a stout Husky defense, UW's offense took a big step forward in 2025 en route to a 15-3-7 record, the Big Ten Regular Season and Tournament Championships and a postseason run to the NCAA Elite Eight.

 

Brett Evans has been coaching at Point Loma since 2017, where he has contributed to the development of student-athletes within the men’s soccer program. In addition to his college coaching experience, he has coached club soccer since 2013, working with players across age groups from U9 through U17.

Prior to his coaching career in the United States, Evans enjoyed a 13-year professional playing career with Ajax Cape Town in South Africa. During his playing career, he also represented South Africa at the international level, competing in major continental competitions including the CAF Champions League and the Africa Cup of Nations.

He holds a U.S. Soccer B License, and brings a development-focused coaching philosophy shaped by both his professional and international playing experience, with an emphasis on technical excellence, tactical understanding, and long-term player growth.

 

 

Joey O'Keefe was named Biola Men's Soccer's 11th head coach in the fall of 2021. He will be rejoining the Eagles, as he graduated from Biola in 2016.

Prior to returning to Biola, O'Keefe spent two seasons at Westcliff, helping the Warriors to a 19-6-4 combined overall record. O'Keefe was instrumental for the Warriors, coaching the inaugural men's and women's soccer teams in 2019. The pair of teams found immediate success with O'Keefe at the helm, holding a combined .863 winning percentage

O'Keefe returns to the Eagles after playing four seasons for Biola during his collegiate career. O'Keefe earned three All-GSAC awards, a GSAC Player of the Year award, as well as a NAIA First Team All-American award as a student-athlete at Biola.

In his playing career, O'Keefe played in the PDL for three seasons before signing a contract to play professionally in Salzburg, Austria. Since returning back to the States, O'Keefe has worked with the LA Galaxy traveling internationally to scout talent to bring back to the Galaxy 2 USL squad

O'Keefe also made an impact for the soccer program at Pacifica Christian High School. As the team's head coach, O'Keefe earned a trio of coach of the year awards from 2017-2020

He has this to say about rejoining Biola Athletics:

Alex Cordon Bofill from Concordia University Irvine as Men’s Soccer Assistant Coach, bringing a diverse background in both international and collegiate coaching.

Originally from Barcelona, Spain, Alex began his coaching career with the FC Barcelona Academy USA. He served as the first assistant coach at Missouri Valley College during the 2020–2021 season, where he claimed the National Tournament championship and earned recognition as part of the NAIA Coaching Staff of the Year.

Following his time in Missouri, he returned to Barcelona, Spain, to continue developing players at CE Mataró, a local club near his hometown, before coming back to the U.S.

He holds the Spanish Level 3 Coaching License (equivalent to UEFA PRO) and holds a degree in Business Administration and Sports Management. With experience across both European and American soccer systems, Alex offers a well-rounded perspective on the game. Coach Alex is excited to contribute to players' growth and development."

 

 


Connor Artigue
Head Women’s Soccer Coach, Hawaii Pacific University

Connor Artigue, a California native, returns to O‘ahu after serving as an assistant coach for the HPU men’s soccer program from 2020–2023. During his tenure, the Sharks captured the 2020 Hawai‘i Pod Championship and earned a top-four PacWest finish with a 6-2-2 conference record.

Artigue has been a long-standing leader in the Hawai‘i soccer community, founding an after-school youth soccer program that served more than 2,500 students annually and partnering with over 50 schools and parks. He also served as an Advancement Director for a local club and as a head coach with the Hawai‘i Olympic Development Program.

At the elite level, Artigue signed with the Seattle Sounders Futures Academy in 2021 and worked as an MLS scout in Hawai‘i, helping place multiple local players into professional academies. Most recently, he coached MLS NEXT teams in San Diego, promoting 12 players to professional academies in the U.S., Mexico, and abroad. In 2024, he made his professional coaching debut as an assistant coach with Redlands FC (USL2), overseeing match analysis and opponent scouting.

Artigue is a UCSB graduate and holds a US Soccer “B” License.

 


 

 

 

 

Kaula Rowe
Associate Head Coach, University of Hawaii

Kaula Rowe enters her fifth season with the University of Hawai‘i women’s soccer program in 2025 and her third as associate head coach. She joined the Rainbow Wahine staff prior to the 2021 season after previously serving as a head coach at Chaminade University and spending five years leading youth and high school soccer programs in Alaska.

Rowe has played a key role in the most successful stretch in program history, helping guide UH to its first-ever Big West regular season title in 2024. That season saw the Rainbow Wahine set school records for conference wins (8-1-1), points in the Big West standings, and a nine-match unbeaten streak. She coached three Big West Players of the Year in 2024 and helped the program earn a program-record seven all-conference selections.

A strong advocate for academic excellence, Rowe has helped 26 student-athletes earn Big West Academic Honor Roll recognition, along with multiple Academic All-District honors. She also helped lead Hawai‘i to its second-ever Big West Championship Tournament appearance in 2023.

As a player, Rowe starred at the University of Nevada, where she remains the program’s all-time leading goal scorer. She earned her degree from Nevada in 2004.


Daniel Saucedo completed his second season as an assistant coach with the Hawai‘i soccer program in 2024 after joining the staff in February 2023.

James Sasiadek
Assistant Coach, Philippines U17 National Team

James Sasiadek is a respected soccer coach and the Founder & President of Hawai‘i Soccer Academy, one of the premier youth soccer development programs in Hawaii, where he leads the club’s coaching initiatives and player pathway development.

At Hawai‘i Soccer Academy, Sasiadek oversees coaching education, curriculum structure, and athlete development across age groups, helping provide organized, age-appropriate training and opportunities for college and professional exposure. His staff includes nationally licensed coaches, and the academy emphasizes both soccer excellence and personal growth.

Sasiadek holds advanced coaching credentials, including a National “B” coaching license and is a National “A” License candidate, reflecting his commitment to high-level coaching education.

Beyond his academy leadership, Sasiadek has also been named an assistant coach for the Philippines U17 Women’s National Team (PWNFT), bringing international experience and development expertise to the national program ahead of the 2026 AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers.

In addition to his coaching roles, Sasiadek serves in leadership positions within the local soccer community, including on the Oahu League board, helping shape the direction of youth soccer on the island.


 


David “Bingy” Lara
Head of Academy Recruitment, Seattle Sounders

David “Bingy” Lara is the Head of Academy Recruitment for the Seattle Sounders FC Academy (MLS), where he leads identification and development of elite youth talent across the club’s academy system. In this role, he helps uncover promising players and guide their pathway toward college and professional soccer.

A native of Las Cruces, New Mexico, Lara played youth soccer with NM Striker FC and went on to play at the University of Kentucky, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and later assisted with the men’s soccer program as a student and volunteer coach.

Lara began his coaching career as a graduate assistant and assistant coach with the Morehead State University women’s soccer program while completing his master’s degree in counseling. He then served as an assistant coach with Real Monarchs during their early USL Championship seasons before moving to the Pacific Northwest, where he spent several years in youth development roles including Technical Director at Federal Way Football Club and Director of Talent Identification for Seattle United, working especially with ECNL programs.

From 2018–2021, Lara was a US Soccer Federation Youth National Team Network ID scout in Washington, helping identify top regional prospects for national youth teams. He joined the Sounders Academy in 2022 and has since been central to recruiting and developing the next generation of MLS and college‑level players.  Bingy currently holds is USSF A License & USSF Scouting License.

David lives in the Seattle area with his wife, Anna, and their children, Caius and Mabel.
